Lauren Benson


Nineteen-year-old Lauren has been playing drums for 11 years. Now in her second year at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, she is completing her Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz Drums. Lauren also provides lead vocals and drums in the fun contemporary duo, KaChing! As well as channeling her inner 50s rockabilly chick in the jump blues and swing band, Dirty Lindy.

In 2007 she was a recipient of the Jane Ruthorford Mentorship award sponsored by SIMA. In 2008 she placed 4th in the Billy Hydes Annual Drummers Playoff, judged by Dave Fester, Christim McBride and Michal Iveson.

Lauren has performed at the Basement, Sound Lounge, Ivory Lounge and Tokyio Hotel. She has been tutored and mentored by many musical greats including Merv Dick, Tim Firth, Jim Peisse, Andrew Dickeson, and Ali Foster. Her influences include Keith Carlock, Joe Morello, Evan Manell and Sheila E.

Lauren is excited to be playing and learning from some of Australia’s best female Jazz Instrumentalists and looks forward to many happy times ahead.
